| "After
years of serious work behind the decks, Lars secured his reputation
as one of the most in-demand DJ's right now." (2001 Nervous
Records Catalog) Lars has been DJing globally for 11 years now.
Besides every major city in the U.S., his DJing has brought
him to Canada, Puerto Rico, Greece, Macedonia, Italy, Germany,
England and many places in between. "His passion for the music
is genuine and a listen to his track driven house mix will confirm
it," says Jim Tremayne, editor of DJ Times in a cover-story
article. Lars spent his childhood playing in an array of indie
bands, but it was not until one fateful night at the Omen Club
in Frankfurt in 1990, where he heard fellow countrymen DJ Sven
Vath, that Lars decided to trade in his guitar and amp for two
decks and a mixer. This led to a move to Italy where he was
first exposed to the NY house sound of Strictly Rhythm and Nervous.
Upon returning to Berlin he sharpened his DJ skills and was
able to break into the competitive Berlin scene, by organizing
and promoting some of the best parties the city has ever seen
(Armand Van Helden played his first 2 Berlin gigs for Lars).
In 1995, MTV asked Lars to move to London for the taping of
the first European installment of "The Real World", a reality
based show, with an audience of millions in 41 countries. While
that kind of invasion of privacy is a high price to pay, he
couldn't refuse the opportunity of living rent-free in the dance
music capitol of the world. Lars found London "incredibly inspiring,
everybody there is involved or at least has an understanding
of dance music", and being a full-time DJ for the first time
in his life, allowed him to focus on his career in a whole new |

way. He took on a residency at the Leisure Lounge, promoted Saturdays
at The Coliseum and played clubs such as Ministry of Sound. After
the show, he returned home to play Love Parade and then packed his
bags to realize a life-long dream: move to New York. Not knowing a
single person and carrying only a box of records, two turntables and
a mixer, Lars descended on the big apple with a deep passion for NY
house music. "All my favorite producers and labels were in here, New
York felt like the logical next step." A guest-spot at NY's Vinyl
got the underground dance music community talking and Lars became
an in-demand DJ, playing more than 30 U.S. cities a year." He has
a successfull series of mixtapes called "Resident Alien" and in the
summer of 1999 released a mix CD, "Sm:)e Mix Session 4", on Sm:)e
Communication. Mixer Magazine called the CD "peppered with surprises
in a nice twist to the usual 4/4 thump-a-thon" and CMJ wrote " the
mix is further highlighted by his formidable deck skills, characterized
by his long blending of tracks and intelligent track placement". The
release was followed by a 15 city North America tour, which included
Sound Factory in NYC, Karma in Boston, Shampoo in Philadelphia, Release
in San Francisco and Much Music TV in Canada. In 2000 he became a
resident DJ, with his own mix-show, at netmix.com. While known for
his sound of deep, chunky progressive house, in recent years, Lars
has also made a name for himself as a DJ for fashion shows and downtempo
sets at lounges and private parties. Lars is a technical consultant
to the DJ division of Pioneer Electronics and was involved in the
creation of the DJM-600 mixer and the CDJ-1000 CD-player. He has been
a featured panelist at the Billboard Dance Music Summit and the DJ
Expo and lately spends a lot of time producing in the studio. He just
finished the track "Watching me" for a movie (in which he acts as
well) called "The Wedding Video", which has been selling out festivals
all over the country and just got picked up by Warner Brothers. |
